A TRIP TO SEATTLE

(My uncomfortable poses in front of buildings)

Last year during Thanksgiving Break, I had the opportunity to travel to Seattle, Washington and visit University of Washington, Seattle. I don't typically travel to surrounding states if there aren't any family members to visit so this trip was surprising. At first, I was reluctant to see the school in fear I would fall in love and have to pay the 50K out of state tuition. But to no avail, I did fall in love. The campus itself was beautiful with cherry blossom trees lining the main courtyard and charming rustic style buildings. The iconic Harry Potter library named Suzzallo Library held up to its name and satisfied my inner Potterhead. But what really sold me was the Bioengineering and Biotechnology buildings at the edge of campus. I am interested in pursuing some sort of biological science and these resources given to the UW students were amazing. The outside of the building was glass and there were study rooms on every floor with Expo markers to allow the students to draw on the glass walls surrounding some tables. The building had a view of the bay which I learned the students would swim and row in on the weekends. The weather was perfect and I could imagine myself staying there forever with a computer and some Expo markers.

Seattle itself was beautiful. When I walked around the streets and felt the rhythm of the people walking to work or back home, it felt peaceful yet energizing. When I visited New York City a while ago, everyone was rushing around with a plan for the day, the traffic made everything loud and chaotic, and it was so easy to feel overwhelmed as a tourist exploring. Seattle, on the other hand, was almost a calmer, cleaner New York City with a space for everyone. In my opinion, Seattle, Washingon rivals New York City as I've never felt so at home while away from my family. Although the 50K tuition isn't ideal, I will be applying to UW and I hope UW is as drawn to me as I am to it.
